Who you gonna call - How about Ghost Writers.

©Beth Siess SIESServices - Web Consulting

Most web designers are not trained to write compelling ad copy for your site. They are trained to add the information you give them in the best looking format.

We all are challenged when it comes to promoting our own businesses. We often times look past the most beneficial aspects of our products and services.

Myself included, I often get compliments on how efficiently I get the job done and how easily I am to communicate with.

Being a consultant, it is essential to be able to communicate with my clients on their level, and try my best to explain why I recommend certain marketing tools. So much so that I often fail to see this as the main benefit for someone to do business with me.

This is exactly why I would hire a ghost writer.

There are a few tips to follow when hiring a copywriter, either for articles for publication or website.

First I would definitely check their credentials. Have they done such work before? Ask them to send you some written material to view. Most will include the source from which they were hired for previous work.

This is somewhat like shopping for a gift for a friend. You have a particular item in mind for them, but if you are like me, I will know it when I see it. So do not get in a hurry about hiring a ghost writer. Your patience will pay off with hiring someone that relates to you and your need.

I would suggest that you visit several places online where you can post a writing job and get feedback from interested people to ghost write for you.

Another suggestion would be to do a sample run.

Submit one article to be written. Let the interested writers know that you have more articles for them if they are writing to your satisfaction. This will encourage them to do their best with the first article and also you are not stuck in a contract that you are not satisfied with.

Here are a few sources that I have found helpful:
guru.com
rentacoder.com
scriptlance.com
elance.com
You can view video tours on the elance site here:
Video Tours

These sites allow you to post jobs, view resumes, and even search out people that are qualified to do the work you request. Registration is FREE for Buyers.

A few points to remember when posting freelance projects:

  • Give as much detail as possible
  • Always ask for writing samples
  • Never release payment until you have completely reviewed the final document.

So next time you are stuck between designing and copy writing, who you gonna call - Ghost Writers!
