How to successfully run a web link exchange campaign.
I have talked about the importance of linking to qualified sites. Number One reason is to get listed within Google. For most small business marketing on the web, it is essential to have a listing in google. Sure you can submit your site free to google, but what gets the google bots to find your site is relative links from other sites. You will gain nothing by submitting your site over and over. You must acquire links from other sites. Most newbies to internet marketing fall for the submission of their site to the free for all (FFA) sites in order to acquire links back. This is not wise with what we know today. Your site could be worse off by linking to sites that are low ranked sites or sites that do not relate to your site in any way. I am going to stress you investigate your link exchange with the alexa. Go to the Demo here that SBI has graciously supplied through the alexa toolbar. Or better
yet use this url and replace the domain name with the business in question. You can use this alexa tool to check page rank and also check out who is linking to your competition. Check out the sites linking in and see what their page rank is. *Remember the lower the number the better. This is never ending job to be actively pursuing link exchanges with qualified sites. And most small businesses just don't understand the importance of highly targeted traffic they will receive from this simple step. I personally investigate any business with the alexa page rank system before I exchange a link. Not only for the benefit of creating a good page rank and a traffic flow. But to establish a connection with a reputable source of information. Notice that when you find good quality sites to link with their top contenders that link with them are the big directories, mostly Yahoo and Open Directory. So what do you think, is there a need to submit your site to these directories? If you are wanting to have someone take you serious about your web business you will have to go the extra mile and submit to a few directories free or paid. When I started out several years ago, I was very nieve about SE Marketing and of course things change everyday with the Search Engines, but one thing still remains the same is that the more popular you are in the directories the better page rank you will have everywhere. You have
to check out this of how the Major Search Engines get their information: I will make note that Yahoo Web Pages has recently changed and gets their information from Inktomi.(now owned by Yahoo) People have been in discussion for some time now to how this change is going to effect the Results, but I figure if most SE find relevant information from Google, why should they stop. Did you know that Google has several other major SE that deserve your attention also, such as Froggle. Froogle is the shopping guide to SE. If you are looking to buy a product look to froogle to provide you with results. This leads me to another interesting discussion about designing dynamic shopping cart pages to come up with the keyword searches. A must if you are to compete with online sales. I'll save this tender subject for another article. So here is a list of things to do for a successful link exchange campaign:
I do have a solution for those that just don't have the time or the patience to run a successful link exchange campaign, outsource this work to a qualified person. One that can easily manage your campaign and add and delete links with in your site. There are several software products that will do a great job, but they still have to be programmed. I would suggest hiring this to be done on a personal contact basis to get the job done right. Check out
